Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling is a form of storytelling that uses technology as a vehicle for creating and sharing a story. Many different software applications that can be used to tell stories digitally have the ability to share the created story with many different applications such as Facebook, Twitter and e-mail. There are many iPad applications that students and teachers can use to make their digital stories. Tellagami is a simple platform with an avatar over a still image. You can personalize the avatar’s features and the avatar will use a recording or typed message to tell your story. Another application that you might enjoy using to tell a story is Do Ink Green Screen. As the name implies, this is a green screen app that has the ability to record layers of content to tell your story in a dynamic and sophisticated way. Adobe Voice can also be used to tell your story. Adobe Voice combines an audio recording with a still image to share your story or message.

For each storyteller out there, there is an application that will suit your storytelling style – so explore and have fun learning a new way to share your stories! For the sake of an example, I chose Tellagami to create and share a classroom weekly update with my students and their parents. This is a unique way to prepare students for the learning activities they get to look forward to and also let the parents know what their child is supposed to learn in the coming week. Check it out and let me know what you think! Also, let me know some of the creative ways you might consider, or are, using digital storytelling in the classroom!!
